Trip: Bush flight into Wrangell Plateau in Wrangell - St. Elias National Park and Preserve
Wrangell-St. Elias is North East of Anchorage, about 3 1/3 to 4 hours. There was construction on the way there with a few delays. Wrangell-St. Elias is HUGE, the largest National Park in the US and if you include it with the Park on the Canadian side, it's the largest wilderness in the world. Bigger than the country of Switzerland. It rained most of the time and the temps were in the 30's and 40's.
I flew out of Glennallen airport, dad and Bill flew out of the bustling Chitna airport. We landed just south, south west of Mt. Wrangell and did a few day hikes around, including a hike down a rock slide area to Long Glacier and a hike up to Cheshnina Falls, Cheshnina Glacier. Below are links to my pictures, a few videos I took with a small digital camera and a few pictures of dad's, including a few of me in an interesting position trying to scramble down to Long Glacier. Also, in the video's, they are NOT small by any means, they are big, range in size from 20M to 45M in size, so you have been warned. If you have any questions, drop me a line and let me know, enjoy.
